The feeling almost cannot be described in words. It is as if someone reaches into your chest, and squeezes your heart till it pops like an overripe piece of fruit. It is like losing your soul, making you feel empty and hollow inside. The wanting, the longing, but most of all the confusion,.consumes ones being, dragging one down into darkness and despair, like some unholy vortex from which there is no escape.
Thank you very much! Unfortunately I speak from experience…. And I totally agree that the emotions you’ve added in your comment are a definite part of it. There are so many ways to describe this hurt, as it is a most powerful spiritual force.
Coco, you you you quirky bundle of mischievous atoms, you current resulting from the flapping of faeries’ wings, you lazy cradle cat, you tortoise-shaped cloud, you breath of dying martyr, you red dancing shoes in sprightly legs, you bubbling well of good spirits, you dizzy American, you shameless secret whispered by ruby lips, you fancy hat on a fine head, you you you evil poppy!
Feels like loss and loneliness, tastes like rust and smells like smokey rain.
It’s like being lost in no where in a very dark night, you can hear wolves and snakes in your neighborhood, you’re scared shitless. You try to save yourself but end up beating yourself up for every time you can’t find a way out.
At the risk of becoming a pariah, why all of this whining?
Now that I have your attention— like you, I have felt this despair that you all describe— it is gut-wrenching and it leaves you a Solitary and Empty Vessel. But I have also come to realize that things happen for a reason and the universe finds a way to reward us for the pain we feel with heartache. I do not believe that there is one person for each of us. The heartache that that accompanies a breakup is the universe teaching us to be stronger to prepare us for the next great love of our lives. Write, if you must, to fill that empty space.
Nature abhors a vacuum and the Empty Vessel shall once again overflow. Just remember to keep the lid off the Vessel. CJG, it is clear that you are doing just that.
To me, it feels as if death has come and visited itself upon me. Not that I would know how that feels, but I imagine it feeling that way. As if everything you ever knew was fading into darkness.
To list the feelings that come with being heartbroken would surely take half a lifetime of research, to find the correct words, and then the other half to be sure that those words are arranged in the correct order and properly used.

If even for a second your heart changes a beat. A sudden octive lower. The feeling like improper shifting of gears. Your heart now has a new rythym, the rest of you has not yet caught up. Your entire body was designed for that other person wether you or they knew it or not. Heart break is like that of a Pheonix. You burn, and are tortured for that time during the transition, but given enough time… You will rise up from the ashes renewed. Don’t ever be afraid of heart break… be afraid when your heart is so hardened it cannot break. Also remember. Their loss.
Breathless.

you’ve got a great description. I’ll add disorientation, feeling like you’re drowning, can’t breathe, unbearable anxiety and sadness.

It is a feeling of being lost, because there is a lack of something to anchor you in place. With this sense a comes a sense of anger.
