except because I love you

“I do not love you except because I love you;
I go from loving to not loving you,
From waiting to not waiting for you
My heart moves from cold to fire.
I love you only because it’s you the one I love;
I hate you deeply, and hating you
Bend to you, and the measure of my changing love for you
Is that I do not see you but love you blindly.
Maybe January light will consume
My heart with its cruel
Ray, stealing my key to true calm.
In this part of the story I am the one who
Dies, the only one, and I will die of love because I love you,
Because I love you, Love, in fire and blood.” ― Pablo Neruda
Thanks Miss Ginger, for fulfilling my needs. 😉 My craving has been satisfied, for the moment that is. LOL

Why do we – normally rational and sane people – do things like this to ourselves?

Because it’s so brilliant to love?? 🙂 I don’t knw.,.. But he is one of my favorite love poets…I just Adore his work.

Haha. I often wonder this too. In every other capacity, one makes rational decisions, except when it comes to love:-)

Hi Coco! This is Amy from The Messy Middle — I updated my blog this weekend but haven’t been able to move subscribers from wordpress. Sigh. So, if you want to keep following me, you’ll need to resubscribe through wordpress (messymiddle.com). I’m slowly learning more about technology, that’s for sure … thanks for following and sorry about the hassle!

Another Neruda poem that reaches into my soul and rips my heart to shreds. Thanks for sharing it. Must read more of his stuff.

Ah! Pablo! So touching! But- as my students point out every year- the real “evil one” of this poem is “the love” not mentioned. After all, it is he who “in this part of the story I am the one who Dies.” Hello! He’s telling us she’s the fickle one- the woman is a jerk!
