‘Are you happy?’ he asked.
‘No! Are you?’ she replied.
‘No!’ he answered. ‘No one is really…’ he continued.
‘We should be unhappy together’ he laughed.
‘I heard some call that love,’ he grinned,
then jumped in the air landing beside her.
Her eyes twinkled like blue sparklers, 4th of July summer evening— she was unhappily happy in his presence.
‘Don’t leave,’ she shouted, though he sat beside her.
‘I want to be unhappy with you forever.’
Forever they were.
Unhappy they were not.
Together they were unhappily happy.
Together they found love.
And love…
is the happiest of all happiness’.

Love is the happiest of all unhappiness – that’s what stays with me at the end, though you haven’t written it, kinda like ‘the one you love hurts you most and torments you more!’ Oh dear. Time to go to DisneyLand for a ride in a teacup, Ginger’s Carousel leaves me dizzy. Love it.

Love the way your two line pieces evoke such a response, suggesting volumes in simple direct language that people can relate to. This longer piece shows the same virtues. It’s exciting to see you developing into such a strong poet.
Coco, do you ever perform your work in front of an audience, or have you managed to evade the “performance poet” route?

One of my favorite Norman Rockwell paintings. “Sometime love is just getting a brotherly hug sitting on a bench with the sun shining on your face.”

The ultimate goal in life is to find someone that you can be unhappily happy with. Life makes us unhappy with its tragedies to bear. To find someone who gets you and loves you and you feel the same way about. Now that is true.
