“You never let a woman know she has you, it drives them wild. It’s beautiful.”
“But what if you really like her, and being with her makes you happy?”
“That is the happy. When you win, you are happy.”
“That sounds like a lose.”
“No, you don’t understand, you win the girl.”
“Do you get the girl?”
“Not exactly, but she’s there if you want her. You win the power. You own her brain, and get to live in her heart.”
“But where does she live? Who’s heart does she live in? I don’t get it. What happens to the girl, where does she go? Who gets the girl?“
“She’s just there. I can take her or not, it doesn’t even matter, she is mine in theory.”
“So you don’t have her, but she’s yours?”
“Yes!”
“But what happens if the girl decides to leave? Does she beat you? Does she win this prize you can’t explain?
And if she takes your prize, what makes you happy?”
“She makes me happy. That’s why I have to win her. I need her.”
“Tell her”
“I can’t. It doesn’t work that way. It’s not that simple.”
“Maybe she needs you too.”
“She doesn’t. She is too good for me. The only way I can win her is if I kill her.”
“Fine. Then kill her.”
“I already did.
i feel great.”
“How does she feel?”
“I don’t know. That’s not my role—it’s not part of the game.”
“But you won, right?”
“Yes!”
“And you’re happy ?”
“Yes, I think….except I feel a little empty.”
“What do you mean?”
“It seems my planning was not well plotted—my heart seems to be missing.”
“It’s gone?”
“Yes, she has stolen my heart.“
“Now what?”
“I’m not sure, I’ve not played this role. My body isn’t functioning correctly, and she’s running circles inside my brain. I feel sick to my stomach.”
“I think that means she won— a home inside your heart.”
“But where do I go, where do I live?”
“Oh you are a stupid boy.
The same place you’ve always lived
—inside hers.“

This is amazing, I love the way you execute your story and the sentences you use in the conversation.

A powerful group of pieces that reminded me of how my heart was rack by those many who controlled themselves by putting their hurts invisible places and acting as if nothing could touch them or ever did except for the occasional appreciation of their own increasing perfection. Most died young or begin to drink heavily by the age of 40. Now I will make a cup of coffee and Chase fear from the house once more with my broom, before smiling at the sunshine and waiting for the next ….
