I have experienced this a lot but not in a relationship. Sometimes people want the one thing you can’t give them and are so ungrateful for all the rest. Too bad!
Offering up 1000 grapefruit spoons to someone who only wanted a knife isn’t necessarily trying to change them; it is much more likely you are simply offering them what you have to give. If you had a knife, perhaps you would offer that, but you don’t; you have 1000 grapefruit spoons.
If I may remark To give a man 100 grapefruit is probably the best solution To give a man 1000 grapefruit is I think to go beyond the bounds of his evolution
