Nine stories below, he watches her fly— through the glass and steel high-rise—gracefully, passionately with a fierce air of defiance and mockery in each turn.
She was a wicked girl with a heart so large one could never digest it’s full proximity.
He loved her for it. He loved the way she made him love her and held his heart captive knowingly. He loved the way she devoured other boys and made them fall without the slightest hint of self-reproach, and yet— meant no harm by it. He loved the way she had yelled and screamed at him for his wrongs, then melted peacefully into his arms from utter exhaustion. He loved that she had so much spirit, so much stubborn will, that he knew she could never be fully had by any man.
He walked away. He was able to leave knowing, the world he could give her, would never be the the sort of world she could be free in— and he never wanted to miss a chance to watch that clever, tenacious, wild-hearted, darling girl dance.
