A Star

Did it hurt much,  to love him?

It felt like someone sawed off my five highest points, to fit me
into a circular shape.

What did you feel,  when you finally fit?

I felt dark, as though I’d lost all dreams to shine.

And when you left, did it cause much pain?

It felt like I’d lost all balance— I rolled meaninglessly with no point or edge to stop me.

Then, when you started to heal, did you feel a little stronger?

I realized—I was more than a star…
