I had a painting like this, decades ago. I’m not sure where it is now – should ask my ex, but I don’t think I will

Don’t ask him, buy a new one :). I grew up with this painting on my wall. I love it.

Reckless-brave? Love self first and you’ll then see the love you deserve…and it isn’t one sided.
Like any good story this has prompted me to ponder and question. Thank you Coco J.

Bravery means never saying you’re sorry. Just forging ahead.

So true. Risk is essential.

Maybe Coco, but how is being in love with someone who could never love you back healthy? Would it not drive your little heart insane?
Many would argue that you should give your heart to someone who is worthy of your love; who wants your love; who will never hurt you. So, I will agree, that it is brave, but at the same time, is it not a bad decision?

I didn’t say it was healthy, simply brave. Plus ‘NEVER’ is such a long time, and maybe not healthy to say either. 😉
Love will always hurt at times because it takes risk, and risk is never easy and rarely painless—but incredibly rewarding.
I have more to say, but I haven’t even had my coffee yet.
Either way, I think you’re WONDERFUL Derek. :]

Powerful argument Ms. Ginger. You are quite the optimist. I respect that positively innocent quality of yours Ms. Ginger, don’t ever change.
Also, I appreciate that ‘wonderful’ comment. Very sweet of you. Instead of writing the stereotypical romanticized line I sometimes do, allow me to instead bid you good night young lady, and sweet dreams in Never, Never Land. 😀

“could never love back”?! The initial statement merely talked about the present: “didn’t love”… Maybe i’m adding an implied “yet” only because i’m generally optimistic, but in any case hope does not seem abandoned.

It’s brave, and painful sometimes. I think, though, that it is inevitable that we encounter it.

In my opinion it’s more brave to get detached from someone who doesn’t love us. Which pain is worse: rejection or loneliness? Some food for thought. 🙂

That is quite true…that is so hard

I can understand the bravery, but for the most part I thing it hurts. But then again it depends on the particular feeling of love one is talking about. Great post and beautiful picture.

I’ve been struggling with admitting to love people my whole life. But especially as of late. This is a post that will get me through the week 😀
After all, when we use bravery to overcome fears…aren’t we satisfied? Not necessarily by the result, but with the peace that comes from overcoming an obstacle.

To be in love is a state that we should be grateful for no matter what. When you love, you always get something in return. Sometimes is even better if you love somebody that doesn’t love you back – just look at what happens to most of the relationships out there. It is much worse when you cannot love at all anymore. We should all fear that.

I grew up with this painting on the wall over my bed, too, when I was a small child and like the little girl in this picture I helped my baby brother across the bridge with the guardian angel always close by.

Am I the only one who thinks that this picture is kind of…scary? I can’t say exactly why, but it’s something about it… When I was younger I had similar picture in my room. Every time when I woke up in the middle of the night it scared the sh*t out of me.

I love the picture. The same image hangs over my daughter’s bed. It had been in my grandmother’s house (for whom my daughter is named) and hung over her children’s beds.
And I do agree with you. It is very brave to continue to love!
