tennis, chocolate & coffee
June 1, 2012 § 100 Comments
Perched on the sidelines of the tennis court with journal and pen. Past journal stands my 100% Kona coffee accompanied by my coconut, chocolate, peanut butter and banana smoothie. Directly ahead of my beverage friends, spreads the alluring, bright green tennis courts stocked with red-blooded, stiff angled, fierce yet stately men. Watching them spring left to right with dominant swings and assertive lunges, I realize my body had grown stale from the company I was keeping. Watching their sweat, in the heat of the sun, with the heat of the coffee enlivening my body, I realize I’m ready for new hands to hold. I admire tennis, it being my seductive yet dignified sport of choice. There is a reason why Woody Allen’s ‘Match Point’ drives me happily mad. There is a reason why Jonathan Rhys Myers can seduce me by way of the screen. There is a reason I’ve ventured to this place, allowing my mischievous heart to break open in honor of new life.
The description is superb the play with words is awesome and the point to be conveyed is dome easily.
Awesome to say the least.

Yes! It seems so hard to find another tennis fan around, don’t know why! But honestly, I love tennis, when it comes to playing it. I don’t really give the effort to watch it as much as I do when it comes to playing it. Even though I love watching it, it gives you different feeling when you play it! You should try someday (:

I’ve never played tennis, but for me it’s the ultimate test of one-on-one. As for Jonathan Rhys Meyers, he is a tremendous actor. Watch ‘The Tudors’ if you haven’t yet. Good stuff.

I have been in love with the tudors since it first came out. It is one of my all time favorite shows…although i liked the beginning of the series a lot better… 🙂

Me too, as much as I liked Myers, I almost wonder what might have happened were they to use different actors for the different ages. Still, one of the best shows ever.

i love playing tennis a couple of times a year, eating chocolate almost every day, and drinking coffee religiously (hey, it gives me something to believe in), though i’d prefer to see the gracefully rounded shapes of women on the court than a bunch of sweating, grunting men (although i once managed to get what you might call the worst of both worlds–not that i’m casting a value judgment–when i saw transgendered pro renee richards play in new york a long-ass time ago). you write beautifully, and i salute your magnificence from afar. keep up the great work.

Hmmm… more than that. The way I see it Elegance is balanced by Power and your prose is strengthened by the essence of it.
There are many competent bloggers out here– but very few with a sense of poetry, or an understanding of the poetry, that is seeping from their pores.
I don’t know if your understand that you have that; but, after having read a few lines, I do know that the seeping is undeniable.

No, I have not been to Kona. I actually meant the coffee. It has been my favourite since I was fifteen. I do have a friend who eloped to Hawaii and told me I should go see Maui and Kona. I was skeptical but he doesn’t just say stuff… and he does know me as well as anyone does… so I may put it on my list.

“red-blooded, stiff angled, fierce yet stately men” I love this language and the image you’ve invoked. This is pungent. It has a stark quality that feels robust at the same time. I love tennis. At its best and when well-played it’s like chess. The fascination for me in watching competitive tennis is that you witness a match of wit and guile. A player doesn’t have a coach to go to during halftime or during a time out. She has to figure it out right there and then.
